CIFE has a distinctive vision, mission and history that set us apart from other agricultural and conventional universities. When the Institute was established in 1961, research and technology had essentially no impact on the development of fisheries in most states . Our seniors envisioned a kind of academic institution-one that could, serve the times and the nation's needs. Hence , it was granted a deemed to be university status in 1989. Over the years we have trained more than 5000 people from India and abroad and our alumni are spread across the globe. Today , we have Masters & Ph.D. programs in 11 disciplines of fishery science with state-of-the-art facilities. With CIFE's expertise in interdisciplinary problem-solving, the Institute has a unique opportunity, and a deep obligation, to make a critical difference - by creating the innovations, the leaders the world needs now.
