The Cabinet approved the establishment of the Board of Technical Education under Directorate of Technical Education on 2nd July 1987 and the notification regarding constitution of Board of Technical Education was issued on 5th February 1988.
The Board of Technical Education was formed as an administrative and executive body, to frame the curriculum, to lay down the rules and regulations relating to the academic performance of all Polytechnics and other institutes affiliated to the Board and to various diploma programmes.
At present there are five polytechnics conducting diploma programmes in Engineering and Technology, two hotel management institutions conducting diploma programmes in Hotel Management, and one pharmacy institution conducting diploma programmes in Pharmacy affiliated to this Board.
All diploma programmes in Engineering and Technology are under semester pattern while diploma in hotel management and diploma in Pharmacy are held under annual pattern.
